HOW CAN FROMENT DYNAMOMETERS BE USED TO REDUCE CARBON EMISsIONS?

Simulating Load Conditions

Dynamometers apply a controlled load to the tractor engine, simulating real-world driving conditions, this is monitored on Sigma Dynatest, a software designed to monitor and gather results from the dynamometer test.

This load increases exhaust gas temperatures, which is critical for regenerating the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

DPF Regeneration

Diesel engines produce soot that accumulates in the DPF. To clean the DPF, the soot must be burnt off—a process called regeneration. Regeneration typically requires exhaust temperatures of 250–600°C. On a dynamometer, the engine can be run at specific speeds and loads to intentionally raise exhaust temperatures and trigger regeneration.

Controlled Environment

Unlike on-road regeneration, dyno-based regeneration is predictable and repeatable.

This is especially useful for:

  • Tractor maintenance
  • Maintaining or returning optimum engine performance

While on the Froment dynamometer, technicians can use the Dynatest software to monitor:

Engine performance metrics such as PTO speed, power, and torque.

This helps ensure the DPF is effectively cleaned and the engine is running efficiently.

BENEFITS FOR ENGINE AND FUEL EFFICIENCY

Reduced Backpressure

A clean DPF reduces exhaust backpressure, improving engine breathing and efficiency.

Improved Fuel Economy

Less resistance in the exhaust system means the engine works less to push out exhaust gases.

Extended Engine Life

Regular DPF maintenance prevents soot build up that can damage the engine.

Lower Emissions

Proper regeneration ensures the DPF continues to trap harmful particulates effectively.
